What’s Going Right?

What’s Going Right?

What’s going right?

Lately, my brain 🧠 has been wanting to take me down the rabbit hole of all that’s not going right, what’s not working, pointing out to me all that’s going wrong.

Have you felt this?

Like my brain likes to be miserable or something.

Here’s the thing I’ve learned.

Brains scan for what’s wrong.

It’s their job.

Like a doctor’s job is to find what the problem is.

Doctors aren’t looking for what’s going right.

They are trained to find the problem.

Our brains are, too.

Why do you think a fever gets stopped?

Because our brain is constantly scanning for anything out of place. The second our body temperature rises, our brain knows it.

Immediately, out goes the stuff from our brain to get things back to normal.

Knowing our brain does this means we can be aware it is doing its job when it’s pointing out all the crap.

Nothing has gone wrong if you feel like you’re noticing the negative.

In fact, you are functioning exactly as you’re supposed to be functioning.

Woohoo!!

Have a party. Celebrate. 🎉🎈

You can be onto what your brain is doing.

This means it’s totally normal to need to intentionally practice seeing the good stuff.

You aren’t Negative Nancy or Debbie Downer just because you see negative stuff.

God knew this was the way our brains would work on earth.

So God have us another part of our brain where we could become aware of what our primitive (problem scanning) brain is doing.

We can notice the negative stuff our brain is looking at, say “Thanks, for the info, brain.”

Then purposefully look for the good stuff.

My brain could look at this picture and say: That’s too bad; she’s so sad.”

My intentional part of my brain could say: “So awesome to have a dad who lets her be sad and hugs her and holds her.”

There’s 50% positive and 50% negative in the world…50% feels pretty good and 50% not so good.

It’s part of God’s plan for us to feel both sides of the 50%. We came here to be human. With that comes every human emotion and experience.

Along with the power to choose how we respond to all of our humanness & experience.

Today, I’m choosing to see all the good stuff.

What’s your good stuff?
